Sources of Strength is a radically strength-based, upstream suicide prevention program with shown effectiveness in both preventative upstream and intervention outcomes. Sources of Strength has been involved in several large randomized control trials and is one of the most rigorously evaluated and broadly disseminated prevention programs in the country. Sources of Strength is considered the first suicide prevention program to demonstrate effectiveness in using peer leaders to enhance protective factors associated with reducing suicide across a school population.

Sources of Strength is geared towards individuals who are working directly with students, including teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, counselors, coaches, community health professionals, social workers, or youth workers.

ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM

Sources of Strength Elementary emphasizes the well-being of adults so they may foster a culture of resilience, connection, and positive role modeling in their classrooms. Staff Wellness meetings support staff in prioritizing strength and wellness in their own lives so they may set an example for students to do the same. The curriculum aims to empower student voice and agency, equipping students and staff with the tools to build a community of strength, belonging, and wellbeing.

SECONDARY CURRICULUM

Sources of Strength Secondary harnesses the influential power of peer social networks to spread messages of Hope, Help, and Strength. Peer Leaders are creating a positive impact in schools, colleges, universities and community groups across the United States and Canada. Researchers found that trained Peer Leaders are 4x more likely to refer a suicidal friend to a Trusted Adult. Our teams work to increase a sense of belonging and connection in their communities.
